Congratulations to each artist whose work was accepted into Wild Heart Gallery's Inter / Action international juried art exhibition! Artists were asked to submit their best artwork displaying animal behavior. We were looking for animals interacting, in action, and/or somehow displaying animal behavior. We were impressed with the range of literal to abstract and cerebral interpretations of the theme.

It is the goal of Wild Heart Gallery to support and promote animal and wildlife artwork in a wide range of genres and styles. This exhibition does not disappoint.

Artwork for this exhibition was selected by jury based on theme, originality, technique, skill, and quality of work.

Awards: Best in Show, Overall Runner Up, Overall Honorable Mentions, Best in Category, and Special Merit Awards. More award details below.

BEST IN SHOW

Inconvenient, by Jane O'Hara. Painting on a diamond-shaped canvas of a polar bear mother and cub balancing on a pole over chaotic Hokusai-style waves
by Patsy Lindamood

Take Flight II, by Patsy Lindamood 24 x 36 in, Graphite on cradled Ampersand Claybord

From the artist, "For years, my subject matter was principally wildlife and human portraiture. I achieved signature status in the Society of Animal Artists, Artists for Conservation, and the International Guild of Realism with wildlife work. But about two years ago, on one of my birding expeditions, other elements of the local Texas environment overran my focus on the avian population of the area."

Motion and form come together to create this hypnotic drawing of a flock of flying ibis. The subtlety of shading in most areas is expertly offset by the stark and deep contrast of the silhouetted ibis in shadow. The piece is both controlled and fluid.

OVERALL RUNNER UP

Mother's Love, by Debbie Morris. Pastel drawing of a mother giraffe nuzzling her baby giraffe. The baby giraffe is lying down while the mother curves her neck down over the baby. The background is black.
by Debbie Morris

Mother's Love, by Debbie Morris

30 x 50 cm, Pastels

From the artist, "I am a self taught amateur artist with a passion for wildlife and hyper realism. I am never happier than when I am at my easel creating art. I generally work in Pastels but love to experiment with all mediums."

The attention to detail in not only the giraffe fur and anatomy but also in their gentle interaction with each other is perfectly on theme. Enjoy the composition (wonderful negative space) and treatment of subtle color and tonal shade changes.
