Artist Statement:
Sondra Rosenberg is an artist and art therapist based in Philadelphia. She studied visual art at Oberlin College and earned her Masters of Art in art therapy at NYU.
Working in a range of media and subject matter, Sondra creates art for personal expression, in support of organizations that promote social justice, and private commissions in the areas of memorial portraits, house portraits, pet portraits, and creative imaginings in need of an artist to realize. Each commission is approached with an eye toward capturing the unique qualities and spirits of the subjects, imbuing each work with a deep sense of authenticity and emotional resonance.
For the past two decades, Sondra worked as an art therapist for women with eating disorders and related mental health struggles, guiding them through a process of accessing and finding visual language for their inner worlds. Her own art practice has been deeply influenced by that work. She is interested in the fixed visual expression of shifting mental and emotional states and the ways in which interiors are revealed through surfaces.
